If you watched the GPT-4o demonstration, you certainly noticed how flirty and friendly the AI model was. However, one particular voice dubbed “SKY” drew comparisons with Scarlett’s 2013 movie “Her.”

In 2013, a romantic sci-fi movie starring Joaquin Phoenix was released where the actor falls for an AI assistant named ‘Samantha’ (Johansson’s voice). Spike Jonze‘s screenwriting debut received critical acclaim.

After a decade, OpenAI’s CEO wanted Scarlett to voice the ChatGPT’s flagship model, but the actress denied the offer.

Sam told Scarlett that he felt the actor’s voicing system could bridge the gap between creatives and tech companies and make the customers comfortable with the shift concerning humans and AI.

However, after consideration and for personal reasons, Scarlett declined. Nine months later, her friends and family noted how the newest system, Sky, sounded exactly like hers.

The actor said that OpenAI used a similar voice to hers. So, ChatGPT 4o Sky voice angered Scarlett Johansson and the actress was in disbelief.

Did ChatGPT Disabled Sky’s Voice?

After Scarlett was disappointed regarding the voice of the Sky, OpenAI went further to clarify the concern regarding Sky’s voice.

OpenAI revealed how the imitation did not belong to another professional actress and was not intentional. However, it did not further clarify the topic in detail.

Sky’s voice has been disabled for some time, but to protect their privacy, OpenAI shared their decision in X to pause Sky’s voice temporarily.
