Engineer mastermind and YouTuber James Bruton unveiled his latest creation, the James Bruton Mecanum Bike, which can balance itself with Mecanum wheels.

From Toymaker to World’s First Self-Balancing E-Bike Creator

James initially started building robots at the age of 10. His passion for robotics was there, but he used to work a normal 9-5 for a long time.

Eventually, James started his YouTube account in 2007, where he used to build Iron Man suits and took on other fun projects. Some of his best inventions are shown in his channel.

Although Bruton had a full-time job during this time, this did not stop him from working on his passion and dream of being a YouTuber.

Ultimately, Bruton got better and started taking on bigger pictures and later going on to build this amazing bike.

The engineer has also reached his goal and has surpassed over 1.22M subscribers on YouTube. James said he focuses more on engaging with his subscribers and getting into pop culture and technology.

James’s goal to make reliable, transportable, and robust robots is still being worked on. He also goes to many colleges and shows to discuss his creations.

We can say that people like Bruton, Sam Altman, Harrison Chase, etc, are dedicated to their innovative crafts.

The Magic of Mecanum Normal wheels spin on a fixed axis, which allows it to move forward, backward, or turn. But James was cooking something and wanted to make something special.

The engineer used Mecanum wheels, which is a total marvel of engineering.

These Macanum wheels have rollers that are angeled diagonally into and around them.

What does this do? It helps the weel move forward, back, and even laterally. Creating a crabbing motion.

Bruton’s Balancing Act: How does it balance?

Bruton used four Mecanum wheels on his bike and combined them with precise electric motors for each wheel. This bike is able to move in any direction and maintain perfect balance.

It is very difficult to create or even replicate, but the bike can balance due to its complex sensors and software, which constantly maintain the bike and adjust the motor accordingly.

All of Bruton’s e-bike items were made with Lulzbot 3D Printers, Bearings from 3d Fuel, Lincoln Electric Welder, CNC Router, Ryobi Tools, 3D Printer Filament, and Vectric CNC Software.

More Than Just a Gimmick

The Mecanum wheels obviously have a ton of advantages over traditional boring wheels.

Not only can they move sideways and in confined spaces, but the self-balancing feature also eliminates kickstands.

While Bruton’s creation might look like a silly or wacky experiment, this design pushes the boundaries of what an e-bike can do.

Bruton’s creation showed us a small part of what electric bikes or cars will be like in the future.

However, Bruton’s innovation showed us a glimpse into the exciting Electric bikes we might get our hands on in the near future.
