Elon Musk and Benjamin Rapoport co-founded Neuralink in 2016 with a team of scientists. The company implanted the chip in the first patient, Noland Arbaugh, in January 2024.
However, weeks after the patient’s surgery, several of the implants’ connective treads were retracted from the brain, which reduced the signals the device could capture.
The latest update occurred less than a week after Neuralink co-founder Dr. Benjamin Rapoport departed from the company to launch a new venture called Precision Neuroscience.

Why did Dr Benjamin Rapoport left Elon Musk Neuralink? Although Benjamin is starting his own company, part of the May 3, 2024 podcast stands out.
The Wall Street Journal podcast The Future of Everything recently invited Dr. Benjamin Rapoport. During the podcast, Benjamin mentioned he had leftover safety concerns.

Dr. Rapoport said, “I’ve pretty much devoted my entire professional life to bringing neural interfaces from the world of science to the world of medicine. But I felt that in order to move to the world of medicine and technology, safety is paramount.”

What Does The Co-Founder Have To Say About Neuralink?
Dr. Rapoport said, “In the early days of brain-computer interfaces, there was this notion that in order to extract information-rich data from the brain, one needed to penetrate the brain with tiny little needle-like electrodes.”
Benjamin said he believed the information-rich data could be extracted from the brain without damaging it. The co-founder also explained that the process causes some brain damage when inserted into the brain.
Dr Benjamin Rapoport left Elon Musk Neuralink because of pretty straightforward safety concerns.
