Helldivers 2 has been in a lot of controversy recently. Things escalated when players had to players need to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account to continue playing.
After receiving over 100,000 negative reviews on Steam, Helldivers 2 maker hints Sony as culprit in all this melodrama. The game underwent major turbulence, and we finally know why.
The Account Linking Issue
The controversy started when the game required PC players to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account.
This sparked outrage among fans, and nearly every gamer thought the link to the PSN account was unnecessary.

The maker of Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Studio CEO Johan Pilestedt apologized for the inconvenience.
After the backlash, Sony reversed their decision and removed the necessity of PSN account linking. Seeing the change, Johan praised the Helldivers community for their ability to collaborate. He said in a post on X:
“I want to thank our partners and friends at PlayStation for quickly and effectively making the decision to leave PSN linking optional.”
Arrowhead CEO Pilestedt further said developers and the gaming community need to support each other to create the best game experience and set a new standard for a live game.

Sony PlayStation canceled their plans to force Helldivers players to link an active PSN account. However, the game was delisted from 170 countries that didn’t have access to Sony’s PSN.
Recently, Pilestedt hinted that he had no control over Sony’s decision to make the account link compulsory. Likewise, fans, as well as gaming media, are supporting Arrowhead Studios too.

Helldivers 2 maker hints Sony as culprit on social media, and the replies are hilarious. Pilestedt acknowledged the situation by addressing the difficulties players had to go through.
The game director then jokingly called himself a lousy businessperson and said his expertise was mainly in design, gameplay code, VFX, and level design for Helldivers and other games.

Helldivers director and Arrowhead CEO have actively listened to his fans’ opinions on social media. Hence, Helldivers devs are letting voters decide to release a new paid Warbond.
As a part of the war fandom, the Helldivers community is happy with the Arrowhead Studio and developers. Thankfully, Sony backtracked the account-linking situation due to the backlash.
Sony and Arrowhead benefitted from properly addressing the situation and explaining their decisions to the fans. However, the incident made both companies aware of the gaming community’s concern.
