But now, Ryujinx is officially dead. The company recently ceased operations, and even its GitHub repository is unavailable.

Developers and gamers admired Ryujinx’s dedication to providing users with an alternative way to experience Nintendo Switch games on various operating systems.

What Was Ryujinx?

After Nintendo had started deleting every other emulator, like Yuzu, Citra, etc., Ryujinx was the only emulator available for the Nintendo Switch.

Identical to other emulators, Ryujinx primarily focused on allowing users to enjoy Nintendo Switch games on PC and Macs.

The open-source emulator was a one-spot hub for enjoying classic titles like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Super Mario Odyssey” in high definition and with enhanced graphics.

Moreover, it was ahead of the competition thanks to the user-friendly interface and heavily active community of players and developers.

Therefore, the community is left to cooperate with the death of their favorite emulator. However, users may still access the older version of Ryujinx in the internet archive.

What led Nintendo to take such decisive action against Ryujinx? The timing is crucial; the shutdown came while the lawsuit against the Yuzu emulator was still buzzing. Yuzu also similarly faced legal challenges for allegedly facilitating game piracy.

Nintendo aimed to protect its revenue streams, so actions against emulators became a method of enforcing corporate control over its intellectual property.
