  • YouTube Premium is very tempting, with ad-free features, background playback, and full access to YouTube Music.

There have been tons of cases where users are using VPNs to buy cheaper rates. This issue of YouTube clampdowns VPN users was first discussed on Reddit because of subscription cancellation.

How is this possible? YouTube Premium is cheaper, and prices vary according to region. If you change your location, you could get a premium at a cheaper price. Let’s find out about the issue.

  • YouTube Clampdowns VPN Users

This was a clever hack most people would use in the past, but YouTube has turned the tables.

YouTube prevents VPN users since they have somehow managed to get to know the users who subscribe to a VPN and are seizing their memberships.

For example, a YouTube premium subscription in Ukraine is just 99 UAH per month, and in the US, it costs around $13.99 per month. With an international credit card, you could easily purchase YouTube Premium at a very low cost.

Now, even if you find a compatible VPN to make a cheaper purchase, there is no guarantee your subscription won’t be flagged and canceled.

  • Also, while this hack was tempting, it is unethical since all of these go against YouTube’s terms of service.

    Youtube’s Answer

Regarding this issue, YouTube explained the reason behind this cancellation by stating,

“YouTube has a system in place to determine the country of its users. If the country of signup doesn’t match the user’s current location, YouTube requests them to update their billing information to their current country of residence.”

Although streaming service prices have been rising rapidly, like Spotify, YouTube has been trying its best to provide cheaper rates according to the countries.

  • However, it doesn’t seem like the prices will drop in the US anytime in the future.

However, it’s not the end of the world for people who use cheaper YouTube premiums. Although YouTube clampdowns VPN users, you can still apply for a student discount for a cheaper YouTube premium.

If you are not a student, you can still use the YouTube premium account of someone you know or just split the cost and consider the family plan.

  • With these, you can be sure your subscription won’t be removed, and you can enjoy your favorite content without annoying ads.
