  • Hisense’s mini-LED U8N TV significantly improves upon last year’s excellent U8K series with dramatic improvements to brightness and other picture quality enhancements.

The new Hisense U8N TV review mentions that the U8N design also looks more refined, along with the pedestal stand and full-size remote that includes illuminated buttons. Meanwhile, its 4K 144Hz and 4K Dolby Vision gaming support make it an excellent choice for gamers.

While Google TV remains one of the best smart TV platforms for US owners to stream and browse content, the U8N is relatively affordable compared to its mini-LED competitors.

  • Features Of Hisense U8N TV

The Hisense U8N Mini-LED is a feature-rich set that outperforms its rivals, making it a strong contender in its class. At the heart of the TV is a 4K VA panel with Quantum Dot technology and Mini LED backlighting, which Hisense brands as ULED.

There are a raft of key upgrades over last year’s U8K, the most significant of which are 1600 dimming zones and a peak brightness of 3000 nits for the 65-inch model versus the U8K’s 1008 dimming zones and 1500 nits.

Hisense U8N TV review mentions that it raises the prospect of a much more radiant and contrast-heavy picture, keeping the U8N ahead of many in the competition.

Coupled with display enhancements, the U8N custom Hi View Pro image processor does much of the work in optimizing local dimming control to minimize the typical blooming problem commonly associated with Mini-LED technology; however, there is a slight limitation regarding connectivity.

  • Only two of the HDMI inputs are full-speed HDMI 2.1, and if you have several gaming consoles and soundbars, that may be a limiting factor, mainly because you have to juggle cable swapping.

    Key Features

The Hisense U8N TV review states that it strongly supports gaming: It offers a 4K/144Hz refresh for PC gamers and a 4K/120Hz cap for Dolby Vision gaming. Having the game bar feature back for easy gaming settings during gameplay is also great.

Software-wise, the US version of the U8N runs Google TV, while the UK model uses Hisense’s VIDAA U7.6 software. It supports all the key streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video with HDR.

However, it has no cloud gaming from services like SteamLink and Nvidia GeForce Now, which has been added to some of the competition, including LG’s webOS. Aside from the giant ad bar on the homepage, VIDAA runs well enough, and streaming and local content play just fine.

  • U8N TV Design

Hisense TVs have long been beloved for their value in performance versus their price, but their design has never wowed me. The previous models were functional but just not the prettiest. All of that changes with the 2024 U8N model, though.

Hisense took the time to refine the frame of this TV, and it is at least a lot better now in terms of appearance. This change alone in terms of design takes the U8N a notch higher than its predecessors and at least makes it competitive visually against leading brands.

One of the more striking changes is the new center-mounted stand, compared to the dual-foot designs found on things like the U8K. This center stand makes cable management much easier and allows two height adjustments while keeping cables hidden.

  • The TV’s Build Quality

The U8N can also be mounted to the wall. In addition, the lower bezel has slimmed down, having shed the big “Hisense” logo and chunky chin found in previous designs. Controls were whittled down to a minuscule switch on the bottom, toggling the microphone on and off.

The company could have done better with the whole LED situation with the microphone. Instead, it is just one little light here, an annoying blip. The U8N is decently topped off on its ports, including two HDMI 2.1 at 4K at 144Hz and two HDMI 2.0 at 60Hz.

This also includes modern connectivity options like WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Although the U8N is far from the thinnest set available, its refined design puts it squarely in competition with LG and Samsung designs, a major step forward for Hisense.

    Hisense TV Sound

While the Hisense U8H can get loud and has a decent bass response for a flatscreen, the Hisense U8N TV review mentions its noticeable distortion at moderately low volumes. This means that music, in particular, doesn’t sound especially good.

The Hisense U8N has a 2.1.2-channel built-in speaker system that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive sound formats. A rear-mounted subwoofer on the back panel—a slightly protruding, vented section labeled “subwoofer”-helps add a healthy dose of bass to soundtracks, while up-firing speakers provide height effects.

  • Hisense has included loads of settings to fiddle with audio quality in the TV Sound Effect menu. However, the benefits of having one and the loopholes aren’t justified yet, so let’s move on to the next topic.
