Samsung Medison is a global medical equipment company that develops diagnostic imaging devices. An affiliate of Samsung Electronics, Medison is buying Sonio SAS, a fetal ultrasound AI software company.

Recently, an agreement has been finalized so that Samsung Medison acquires Sonio and all of its regulations. Let’s find out about the company and the acquisition.

A Brief Info About Sonio

Sonio is a Paris-based startup just like Mistral AI. The company focuses on creating AI-powered software for ultrasound workflows. Cecile Brosset and Remi Besson founded the company in 2020.

Cecile is the CEO of the company, and Besson is the CSO. Sonio most recently raised $14 million in a Series A round-headed by Cross Border Impact Ventures in August 2023.

Tracxn reports that the firm has raised $27.2 million from investors such as Elaia, Bpifrance French Tech Seed, OneRagtime, and a few angel investors.

The South Korean electronics giant Samsung announced Wednesday that it would acquire French artificial intelligence company Sonio to enhance its cutting-edge medical diagnostic tools.

According to multiple sources, Samsung Medison is acquiring the French fetal ultrasound AI software company for nearly $92.7 million via a stock purchase.

Samsung Medison CEO mentioned that he greatly respects and admires what the Sonio team has built in the maternal care area. He and the Medison team will ensure that the tech is used correctly.

What Did Medison Say About the Acquisition?

The representatives of Medison mentioned that Sonio will still be an independent company. Furthermore, Sonio will continue to thrive commercially and provide services and products in France.

Moreover, the collaboration between the two companies will combine best-in-class ultrasound AI technology and reporting capabilities to create a paradigm shift in prenatal ultrasound exams.
